Biography
An interest in the work of Miltiad Tone was shown several decades after his death. Because of this, information about him is stingy and sketchy. Miltiad was born in Athens in 1875. He was the last child in the large family of the courtier and businessman Nikolaos Ton ( 1850 - 1906 ) [1] . He studied painting in Munich with Nikolaos Gizis (the latter is disputed by some Greek art historians). The tone remained in Munich until 1906, after which he lived for some time in Italy. It is not clear when he returned to Greece, but judging by his picture, the destroyer Dox , before the Balkan Wars (1912-1913). The main topics of his work were sea and other landscapes, as well as sailing ships and warships of the Navy of Greece . Most of his work was presented in the album "Images of Greece". The artist died in Athens in 1945. [2] [3] .
