Organizational History

Army Formation

The 6th Separate Air Defense Army was formed in February 1961 on the basis of the Leningrad Air Defense Army on the basis of the Directive of the General Staff of the Air Defense Forces.

Army Transformation

  • The 15th Separate Air Defense Army was disbanded on March 15, 1980, units and formations of the ground air defense troops were transferred to the Leningrad Military District, and the air units of the army entered the Air Force of the Leningrad Military District ;
  • in April 1986, the 6th Separate Air Defense Army was re-formed on the basis of the 18th Red Banner Air Defense Corps , which had previously been part of it;
  • In connection with the reform of the Armed Forces of Russia, on June 1, 1998, the 6th Separate Red Banner Air Defense Army was merged with the 76th Red Banner Air Army and was named the 6th Air Force and Air Defense Army .
  • On September 13, 2005, the 6th Red Banner Army of the Air Force and Air Defense, by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, was given the honorary title and it became known as the 6th Leningrad Red Banner Army of the Air Force and Air Defense (since September 13, 2005);
  • In connection with the ongoing reform of the Armed Forces of Russia, the 6th Leningrad Red Banner Army of the Air Force and Air Defense was reorganized into the 1st Air Force and Air Defense Command , to which all regalia were handed over. The 1st Air Force and Air Defense Command received the name of the 1st Leningrad Red Banner Command of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Western Military District (from December 1, 2009);
  • The 1st Leningrad Red Banner Command of the Air Force and Air Defense on August 1, 2015 was reformed [2] into the 6th Leningrad Red Banner Army Army and Air Defense Force of the Western Military District.

  • 18th Air Defense Corps :
    • The 29th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment disbanded in 1969;
    • The 27th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Air Defense in October 1970 was transferred to the 10th Mixed Aviation Division of the 73rd Air Force ( 10th Fighter Aviation Division since 1980, Ucharal, Almaty Region );
    • The 54th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment in June 1978 was transferred to the 5th Air Defense Division ( Besovets , Karelia );
    • In May 1980 the 177th Fighter Aviation Regiment was transferred to the Air Force of the Leningrad Military District, and in May 1986 it was returned;
    • The 180th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of Air Defense was transferred to the Air Force of the Leningrad Military District in May 1980, and returned to May 1986;
  • 14th Air Defense Division:
    • The 425th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Air Defense , the 655th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Air Defense and the 656th Fighter Aviation Regiment dropped out of the division on December 30, 1977 to the 76th Air Army and returned to the division on 04/30/1986.

Awards

  • The 6th Separate Air Defense Army for the great services rendered in the battles for the defense of the Fatherland, success in combat training. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 22, 1968, was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.
