History

The Beginning (1987-1989)

The group originally appeared under the name Doll in honor of the then leader and vocalist Kerry Doll. The original group consisted of: Kerry Doll - vocals, Ariel Stiles - guitarist, bassist Vinnie Chas and drummer Kari Kane. In addition, they recorded several demos called Doll. In 1987, vocalist Kerry Doll was replaced by Steve Summers, at the same time they changed their name to “Pretty Boy Floyd”. Soon, guitarist Ariel Styles was replaced by New York guitarist Christie "Krash" Major. The title "Pretty Boy Floyd" was proposed by producer Kim Fowley , who was working with the group at the time. Thus, the group was officially created in 1987 in Hollywood, Los Angeles. After several successful performances in clubs, a contract was signed with MCA Records .

Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz (1989)

After successfully performing at Sunset Strip clubs, Pretty Boy Floyd took a break to prepare for the recording of their debut album. The album was called "Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz", the producer of the album was Howard Benson working with Motorhead . Two singles were released from the album: “Rock and Roll (Is Gonna Set the Night on Fire)” and “I Wanna Be With You”. Video clips were also shot on these singles, the last of which received a large rotation on MTV.

Most of the material on the debut album was written by former guitarist Ariel Stilesem, with the exception of the song "Rock and Roll (Is Gonna Set the Night on Fire)" written by guitarist Christy Major. The album also contained a cover version of Motley Crue 's song “Toast Of The Town”. In December 1989, Pretty Boy Floyd was involved in some legal issues with a band of the same name from Canada. Pretty Boy Floyd of Canada released their debut album “Bullets & Lipstik” in 1989, but a group from the USA won the case and Canadians were forced to change their name to “Tommy Floyd” (the name of their leader). In early 1990, Pretty Boy Floyd was invited to tour the UK, opening for The Quireboys , but the tour did not take place.

The debut disc “ Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz ” on the glam scene made a stunning impression. All metal editions of Europe, America and Japan wrote about the young band. December 16, 1989 the band appeared on the cover of the British magazine Kerrang! [1] . A European tour was planned in accompaniment of White Lion , but the last vocalist’s illness thwarted these plans. While the group made up for this event by participating in the soundtracks for the films “ Karate Boy 3 ” and “ Substitution ”, the situation in the music market changed. In the film “ Substitution ” there was an unreleased “Slam Dunk.” As a result, MCA Records terminated the contract and the group went on vacation.

Reunion

By the end of 1995, Pretty Boy Floyd had come together again. They recorded a five-song EP entitled "A Tale of Sex, Designer Drugs, and the Death of Rock N Roll." The EP was recorded in 1998 with the help of former Big Bang Babies guitarist Keri Kelli and former LA Guns Keff Ratcliffe bassist. The 5th track was a cover of Big Bang Babies "Everybody Needs a Hero" by Keri Kelli himself.

In 1998, the group recorded a full-length album called “Porn Stars”. On it, the group re-recorded 5 tracks from the debut album, 1 track from the EP “A Tale of Sex, Designer Drugs, and the Death of Rock N Roll” and two cover versions on KISS - “Shout It Out Loud”, Alice Cooper - “Department of Youth »
