Winfried Denk ( German: Winfried Denk ; born November 12, 1957 , Munich , Germany ) is a German scientist. The works are mainly devoted to the creation and use of microscopes for biomedical research.

Career
In 1990, he received a Ph.D. from Cornell University . In 1991-1999 he worked at Bell Laboratories . Since 1999 he has been working in Germany. He is the deputy director at the of the Max Planck Society [1] and a member of the board of directors at the Institute of Medical Research of the Max Planck Society [2] .
He gained fame as one of the creators of a two-photon laser microscope . Subsequently, he developed a method for obtaining three-dimensional images using a scanning electron microscope , which allows one to see axons and neurons in the volume [3] [4] [5] [6] . The data obtained with it is used in the game EyeWire .
