Biography
The son of a doctor. He graduated from Ekol Normal , where he studied history and philosophy. In 1952 he continued his studies in the USA, where he became acquainted with the structural and functional sociology of T. Parsons .
Research Issues
Touraine's main interests are connected with the social movements of the 1960s and 1970s. (antiwar, workers, youth, women’s, regionalist, Third World countries, etc.) as new collective “subjects” of social action.
Theorist of post-industrial society .
Recognition
Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences, Honorary Doctor of several universities in France and abroad, officer of the Order of the Legion of Honor , National Order of Merit . Amalfi European Prize (English) ( 1998 ). Prize of the Prince of Asturias in the category Social Sciences ( 2010 ).
