History

The house, located on Sibirskaya Street (now Labor Street), was built by the Chelyabinsk merchant Nikolai Petrovich Krasheninnikov. In 1866, the house is listed behind the Olympics Krasheninnikova on Siberian Street, and in 1873 the house becomes the property of the merchant Stepan Tikhonovich Stepanov. His sons founded in 1877 (according to other sources in 1878) the Stepanov Brothers trading house. Its founders were brothers: Evdokim, Nikifor, Pavel and Ivan Stepanovich Stepanov. Since 1877 (1878) the building is the property of a trading house. After the revolution , the Stepanovs' house was nationalized. In the former mansion of the Stepanov brothers, the professional revolutionary V.K. Blucher lived for a short time during his stay in Chelyabinsk [3] . July 15, 1925 in this house was opened the hotel "House of the Peasant." The newspaper Sovetskaya Pravda wrote [4] :

A peasant who has arrived in the city will find refuge, simple healthy food and an overnight stay in the “House of the Peasant”. Here in the stable in the courtyard he can put his horse ...

In the thirties of the XX century, the "House of the Peasant" ceased to exist. The building was restored twice in 1986 and in 2005. Currently ( 2015 ), the former house of the Stepanov brothers is occupied by private organizations.
