Biography

Father (Stanislav Khorshovsky) was the owner of a musical instrument store specializing in piano. He received the first piano lessons from his mother, a student of Karol Mikuli, Rosa Khorshovskaya (nee Rosa Yanina Wagner). Then he studied in Lviv with Henryk Meltzer and more thoroughly in Vienna with Theodor Leshetitsky . From the age of nine he began to give concerts and by 1911 , tired of the career of a child prodigy, he decided to abandon his musical activity and study literature and philosophy in Paris . However, Pablo Casals convinced Khorshovsky to change this decision. Khorshovsky settled in Milan and toured all over the world, and in 1940 he moved to New York and then to Philadelphia, where he taught at the Curtis Institute : his students were, in particular, Richard Goode , Murray Peraia , Cecile Likad , Anton Kuerti and dr. Being from a Jewish family, Khorshovsky adopted Catholicism at a young age.

In the repertoire of Mechislav Khorshovsky, both Mozart and Beethoven and composers of the 20th century - Vincent d'Andy , Arthur Onegger , Karol Szymanowski , Igor Stravinsky , Boguslav Martinu , Eitor Villa-Lobos and others occupied an important place. The last performance of Khorsovsky took place in 1991 - thus, his performing career lasted 90 years.
