Djerba, Ali

Ali Ngon Gerba ; born September 4, 1981 in Yaoundé , Cameroon, is a former Canadian footballer of Cameroonian origin who is known for playing for the Montreal Impact and the Canadian national team .

Club career

Djerba began his career at Montreal Impact . In his first season, he scored six goals and gave two assists, which was a record for a rookie in the first season. In 2001, Ali joined the American Miami Fusion , but the same year the team was disbanded and Djerba joined the USL club Pittsburgh Riverhounds . A year later, he moved to the Toronto Links .

In 2005, Ali signed a contract with the Swedish club Sundsvall . In eleven matches of the Allsvenskan League, he scored six goals, but this did not help and the team flew to Superettan . Djerba remained in Sweden and joined Gothenburg . For the new club, he could not show former performance, never having hit the opponents' goal. In the same year, Ali, on loan, transferred to the Norwegian Odd , and then to the Danish Horsens .

After a good performance in the Danish Super League , in early 2008, Djerba signed a short-term contract with the German club Ingolstadt 04 . In the summer, he left the team despite excellent performance. His new club was the English Milton Keynes Dons . On September 20, in a match against Colchester United , Djerba made his debut in the First English League [2] . On September 27, Ali scored his first goal for MK Dons in a duel against Peterborough United [3] .

In 2009, he returned to Canada by signing an agreement with Toronto . July 26, in a match against Columbus Crew , Ali made his debut for a new team [4] . In the same match, he scored his first goal for Toronto. In 2010, Djerba returned to Montreal Impact, where he ended his career at the end of the season.

International Career

In July 2005, in a friendly match against the Honduran national team, Djerba made his debut for the Canadian national team . In the same year, Ali was included in the application for participation in the CONCACAF Gold Cup as part of the national team. At the tournament, he played in matches against Costa Rica [5] , teams of the USA [6] and Cuba [7] . In a duel against the Cubans, Djerba scored his first goal for the national team .

In 2007, Ali helped the team win the CONCACAF Gold Cup silver medals. In the tournament, he played against Costa Rica [8] , Guadeloupe [9] , Guatemala [10] and the USA [11] . In fights against Guadalupe and Guatemalans, Djerba scored three goals.

In 2009, Ali took part in the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the third time. At the tournament, he took part in matches against the national teams of El Salvador [12] , Jamaica [13] , Costa Rica [14] and Honduras [15] . In fights against the Jamaicans and Salvadorians, Djerba scored two goals.

In 2011, Ali entered the application for participation in the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the fourth time. At the tournament, he took part in matches against the US teams [16] and Guadeloupe [17] .
