Perospiron is an atypical antipsychotic of the azapiron family [1] . It was first introduced in 2001 by the Japanese pharmaceutical company Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma as a cure for schizophrenia and acute manic psychosis [3] [4] .

Pharmacology
Perospiron is associated with high affinity with receptors (as an antagonist , unless otherwise indicated) [5] [6] [7] [5] [8] [9] [10] :
- 5-HT 1A (partial agonist; K i = 2.9 nM)
- 5-HT 2A (inverse agonist; K i = 1.3 nM)
- D 2 (K i = 0.6 nM)
with high receptor affinity : [6]
- H 1 (inverse agonist)
with moderate receptor affinity: [6]
- D 4
- α 1 adrenergic receptor
and with low affinity for the receptor: [6]
- D 1
Side Effects
It can cause more severe extrapyramidal disorders than other atypical antipsychotics, but easier than typical (classical) ones [1] [11] .
