The city received the name Kunda Mesolithic culture .
History
Near Kunda on Lammasmyagi Hill, which was an island in an ancient lake, the remains of the oldest settlement of an ancient man in Estonia were found (about 10 thousand years ago). In this village, Kunda culture was named, which occupied most of Estonia in the Mesolithic. Fishing accessories of this culture are depicted on the emblem of the city.
The city has been known since the 13th century . Not far from the modern city on the coast are the ruins of Tools .
Until the middle of the XIX century, Kunda remained a small village. In 1870, construction began on one of the largest cement plants in Russia , in 1893 the first industrial power station in Estonia . All this served as the beginning of the development of the village and in 1938 he received the status of a city.
During the period of independence, the city experienced an economic decline and outflow of the population, the cost of housing in some cases fell to a level below cost.

Economics
Kunda is an important industrial and port city of Northeast Estonia. There is a cement plant (943 thousand tons of products in 2006), a trading port (1.7 million tons of cargo in 2007), and a pulp mill with a capacity of 140 thousand tons was built in 2006.
