After the ruin of the Smolensk lands by Izyaslav and Polovtsy in the winter of 1159/60, Svyatoslav Olgovich, with the help of his Kiev-Smolensk allies, undertook a campaign against Vshchizh. Svyatoslav, Vsevolodovichi and Rurik Rostislavich participated in the first campaign. Izyaslav turned to Andrei Bogolyubsky for help, and he sent an army led by his son Izyaslav, including the Muromites. Upon learning of his approach, the Allies retreated from Vshzhizh.
During a strategic pause, Andrei Bogolyubsky's daughter was married to Svyatoslav Vschizhsky.
The second campaign was undertaken by squads, significantly superior to the forces involved in the first campaign. The second campaign was also attended by the Kiev, Galician and Polotsk regiments. The fortune was besieged for 5 weeks, after which a peace was concluded according to which Svyatoslav Vladimirovich recognized his uncle Svyatoslav Olgovich as his father instead .
