Organization Building History
The army originates from the Voronezh-Borisoglebsky Division of Air Defense formed on November 24, 1941:

Army Formation
The 8th Separate Air Defense Army was formed in March 1960 on the basis of the Kiev Air Defense Army on the basis of the Directive of the Main Headquarters of the Air Defense Forces No. omu / 1/454690 of 03.24.1960.
Army Disbandment
In connection with the collapse of the USSR, the 8th separate air defense army was transferred to the jurisdiction of Ukraine on June 1, 1992.

In 1960 - 1961, S-75 air defense missiles were massively delivered to formations and units of the army, parts of the ground forces and aviation regiments, which were converted into anti-aircraft missile regiments, were transferred to the army. Fighter aviation regiments are equipped with MiG-17pf , Yak-25p and Su-9 fighter interceptors. The frontier units and units of the RTV are equipped with Air-1P automation equipment.

A S-300 homing group was formed and included in the 96th air defense missile system; at the same time, a part of the S-75 and S-125 homing systems was disbanded. The reformation of some RTBs into RTCs has taken place.

Admitted to the 8th Air Defense OA from the troops of the Odessa Military District:
- 1st Air Defense Division (Sevastopol)
- 21st Air Defense Division (Odessa) with support units
- 62nd IAP ( Belbek is included in the 1st Air Defense Division.
In the newly formed 19th separate air defense army transferred:
- 12th Air Defense Corps .
The 9th Air Defense Division and the 11th Air Defense Division on March 15, 1986 were merged into the 49th Air Defense Corps [11] . Equipping of army units with the S-300 complexes continues (148, 174th air defense missile system, 138th air defense system).
- 1988 year
The 49th Air Defense Corps on July 1, 1988 was reorganized into the 11th Air Defense Division [11] . The control of the 79th rtp into the control of the 164th rtbr (military unit 44343). The structure includes units of the 50th and 79th rtp. Reassigned from the 11th Air Defense Division to the 1st Air Defense Division: 738th IAP and 100th ZBR.
- 1989 year
Reformed [11] and reassigned to June 15, 1989:
- The directorate of the 1st Air Defense Division and the 21st Air Defense Division - to the Directorate of the 60th Air Defense Corps [11] (military unit 03119). The corps administration is stationed in Odessa on the management funds of the 21st Air Defense Division.
- The troops of the 1st and 21st air defense divisions are included in the 60th air defense corps (100, 160, 174, 206, 208, 275 air defense units, 1014, 1170 air defense units, 902nd frame.
