Pyotr Oslyadyukovich (Ub. 08.02.1238) - governor who led the unsuccessful defense of Vladimir from the Mongols during the Mongol invasion of Russia .
The main forces of the Vladimir-Suzdal Principality, defeated by the Mongols near Kolomna in early January 1238, retreated from Vladimir north through Yaroslavl along with Grand Duke Yuri Vsevolodovich , and a garrison was left in Vladimir under the leadership of Peter Oslyadjukovich. Before the assault, the Mongols killed the younger son of Yuri Vladimir, who had been captured before in Moscow, in front of the Vladimirites, including his older brothers Vsevolod and Mstislav , and they wanted to take the garrison to the battle in the Mongols outside the city walls. However, Pyotr Oslyadyukovich canceled this plan, here is how the “first Russian historian” V. N. Tatishchev describes it:
The princes, because there were young people, wanted to fight with the Tatars when they left the city, but the governor Peter judged them that “seeing a great many Tatars, it is impossible for us to defeat them of course with a small number. And even if we were very fortunate enough to beat several thousand of them, but having lost our hundred, we will regret rather than rejoice, for in such a large army of them a thousand battered will not be visible. If, due to their strength and cunning, we fail, then we all will cause great sorrow and fear. But it’s enough for us when we can defend ourselves from the walls and keep the hail from attack ”
On February 7, Saturday, the Mongol detachment returned to Vladimir, taking Suzdal . At night, the city was surrounded by tyn and siege weapons were installed, and on February 8, Sunday, the city was taken. The whole family of Yuri and governor Peter died.
