Orlov, Pavel Mikhailovich

Pavel Mikhailovich Orlov ( July 20 ( August 1 ), 1879 , Moscow - April 6, 1964 , Moscow ).

Born in the family of a military serviceman - from chief officer children. After graduating from the Konstantinovsky Land Surveying Institute in 1901, until 1907 he worked in field land surveying in the Urals and in the Crimea. From 1907 to the end of his life, he was teaching at the Moscow Agricultural Institute (TSAA): from 1907 - assistant, from 1913 - senior assistant, since 1917 - professor of the Department of Geodesy. In 1929-1930 he was dean of the Faculty of Agronomy. At the same time, in 1930-1954 he headed the Department of Geodesy of the Moscow Institute of Water Engineering (since 1935 he was deputy director for scientific and educational affairs in it). In addition, in 1908 he became one of the organizers of the Golitsyn higher agricultural courses .

In addition to several editions of textbooks and study guides on geodesy, he published more than 100 works, the scientific range of which is extremely wide [1] : the creation of new types of tools (developed the original design of a double prism level), the development of new methods of field geodetic and cameraman photogrammetric measurements (found a mathematical solution to determine sound points), research in the field of soil science, land management, history of geodesy.

Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR (1959). He was awarded the Orders of Lenin and the Red Banner of Labor .

He was buried at the Golovinsky cemetery .
