The 2009 Curling World Championship among mixed couples 2009 was held in the city of Cortina d'Ampezzo ( Italy ) from April 18 to April 25, 2009 . The tournament was held for the 2nd time.

The tournament was attended by 27 national combined teams (composed of one man and one woman).

The champion (2nd time in her history) was the Swiss national team , who won the Hungarian national team in the final. The bronze medal was won by the Canadian national team , who won the Chinese national team in the 3rd place match. [one]

For the first time, the national teams of Austria , Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea took part in the championship.

Competition Format

Teams are divided into 3 groups (A - "blue", B - "red", C - "green") of 9 teams, where they play with each other in a circular system in one circle. The 1st place winners go to the playoff semi -finals directly. The runners-up go to the qualifying round of the playoffs, where first the two worst of the three teams meet, and then the best of the three teams meets with the winner; the winner joins the participants in the semifinals of the medal round. These four teams play the Olympic system in the semifinals, then the winners of the semifinals in the finals play the 1st and 2nd places, the losers in the semifinals play the 3rd and 4th places among themselves.
