Geography

Steep coast of Turunchuk

The Turunchuk sleeve was formed in 1780-1785 [2] . Branches to the left of the Dniester shipping channel near the Transnistrian village of Chobruchi at the 146th kilometer from the mouth. A stone ridge forms a threshold at the entrance to the sleeve, the sound of water is heard for 300-500 m. Then it flows near the villages of Glinoye, Krasnoye, Korotnoye, Nezavertylovka, and again flows into the Dniester at the 20th kilometer from the mouth near the city of Belyaevka ( Odessa region ) .

Thanks to the sandy mane that was washed with water, Turunchuk separated from Lake Bely and flows directly into the Dniester. Turunchuk takes about 60% of the Dniester’s water.

Most of the coasts are steep and clayey, they are covered with willow forest, overgrown bushes and grassy forbs. On the banks of the Dniester, Turunchuk and on the island of Turunchuk between them there is a whole system of lakes (the largest of them are Kuchurgan estuary , lakes Beloe , Putrino and Tudorovo ). The lakes of the Dniester basin, together with the remains of ancient elders, occupy an area of 39.4 km², with a total volume of 35.2 million m³. This site is of interest from the point of view of the conservation of wetlands and the maintenance of biodiversity.

Tourism

Turunchuk is a popular vacation spot for residents of the Odessa region and Moldova (Transnistria). In the warmer months, tents of tourists can often be found on its shores. Turunchuk is also a popular fishing spot; fishermen competitions are often held here.
