Centuries

“Centuries” (styled “ Cen † uries ”) is the musical composition of the American rock band Fall Out Boy , released as the first single from their sixth studio album American Beauty / American Psycho on September 9, 2014 . The song was written by Fall Out Boy in collaboration with two producers, and a music video for the gladiator theme was also shot. The single went four times platinum in the U.S. and reached No. 1 on the UK Rock & Metal Chart and No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 . “Centuries” is also the fourth single of the group, which hit the top ten hits, and the first to achieve such success eight years after the release of the single “This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race” ( 2007 ), reaching the same heights. In 2015, the composition was nominated for the Kerrang Award ! Award as the best single. Fall Out Boy has repeatedly performed Centuries on television.

History

“Centuries” was written by Pete Wentz , Patrick Stump , Joe Throman , Andy Hurley , Jonathan Rotham , Justin Tranter, Raja Kumari and Michael Fonseca in mid-2014 and was produced by Omega and Rothem. Initially, Stump made a song during the Monumentour tour, held in conjunction with the American rock band Paramore [6] . In an interview with Kerrang! Wentz described the idea of ​​the song as the story of “ David vs. Goliath ” [7] .

"Centuries" contains a sample of the song " Tom's Diner " by Suzanne Vega , rewritten specifically for the track by American singer Lolo [8] [9] .

Release

A few days after the end of the Monumentour tour , on September 4, 2014, Fall Out Boy posted a short teaser video in which the name of the future composition was encrypted using Morse code [10] . The day before the official premiere, Centuries was presented on BBC Radio 1 [11] .
