(655) Briseis ( German Briseïs ) - an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on November 4, 1907 by the American astronomer Joel Metcalf at the Taunton Observatory and named after Briseis , the heroine of ancient Greek mythology, one of the central figures of the Iliad [1] .
