Burundi at the 2016 Summer Olympics

The Republic of Burundi was represented by 9 athletes in 3 sports at the 2016 Summer Olympics . At the opening ceremony of the Games , the athlete Olivier Irabaruta became the standard bearer of the national team of Burundi, and swimmer Billy-Scott Irakos , who took 66th place at a distance of 50 meters freestyle, became the flagman of the opening ceremony . According to the results of the competition, the Burundian athletes had one silver medal, which allowed the Burundi team to take 69th place in the unofficial medal standings. It was won by athlete Francine Niyonsaba , who became the second in the 800 meter race . This is only the second medal in the history of Burundi. The first winner was Venuste Niyongabo , who won gold in the 5,000 meters race at the 1996 Games.

  Judo
