Background
The game world Crossout tells the story of how mankind died due to one experiment conducted by a metagalactic group. They tried to create an army of strong warriors out of people, but something went wrong and the secret DNA mechanism was activated ahead of schedule. This is precisely what caused the total extinction of people who themselves, without suspecting it, began to destroy themselves in attempts to escape from a terrible fate. Human civilization was completely destroyed, however, far from all people became victims.
The survivors, and there are not many left, were able to survive the reprogramming of DNA and are now forced to inhabit an almost dead planet. True, a trace of past misfortune still affected them. They are forced to wear masks, their eyes glow and the only way to survive are cars that need to be assembled from scrap metal. Gradually, this system began to develop and people had the opportunity to use a variety of devices to improve a combat vehicle. And the survivors themselves were divided into three factions: Wanderers, Scavengers, Steppe Wolves and Mad. Now only these three factions decide who will rule the lands and who will have to disappear into another world. [3] .
Description
Crossout takes place in 2049 (30 years after the real date), on the ruins of civilization. Few survivors face a ruthless struggle for valuable resources. Their main weapon will be armored vehicles collected from everything that can be found in the vastness of the post-apocalyptic world. Hundreds of parts will be used, including objects from the past - rusty doors, chainsaws, cabs from old cars, and modern inventions of self-taught designers - combat drones, invisibility generators and jet boosters [4] . The plot of Crossout is associated with the game Ex Machina , developed by Targem Games and released in 2005 [5] .
Gameplay
Creating Armored Vehicles
The main feature of the game is armored vehicles, which the player creates independently from various parts and materials obtained in battle or bought from other players in the market. The main parts of the car - a cabin, a platform and a variety of chassis - are required to create an armored car. Other details, such as armor, weapons, generators, boosters and other devices, although not required to participate in the battle, will come in handy for more effective combat.
In Crossout there are templates and ready-made models of armored vehicles. There are several types of templates: fractional armored vehicles, which a player can get when he reaches a certain level in different factions; armored vehicles from the exhibition, which are shared by the players themselves; “I can assemble” armored vehicles, which, when the corresponding button is pressed, automatically appear in the garage. Machines for balance are divided by OM (Power Points). Each part has its own OM. From the OM of all parts of the armored car, the general OM is formed. The better the part, the higher its OM. Nevertheless, the player can arbitrarily change, improve or reassemble the armored vehicles from his existing parts. Thus, users can create machines that are best suited to their particular style of play.
Despite the fact that the player can construct an armored car of almost any kind, the laws of physics work in Crossout. This means that a heavy vehicle will move more slowly, and recoil when fired from a large-caliber gun can overturn a light armored car. Thus, when designing an armored car, the player will need to maintain a balance between the various characteristics of the car, as well as to consider the relative position of the details [6] .
You can get various details in battle, buy from other players, or craft on your own on machines.
Fights
The player is offered a choice of several types of combat missions:
- Missions - battles against other players (PvP) with teams of 8 to 8. The selection of opponents is based on the characteristics of the “power points” of the players ’machines. In the event of a shortage of players, computer-controlled bots take their place.
- Raids - battles of players against bots (PvE). Raids are divided into light (★), medium (★★) and complex (★★★). This mode is the only way to get resources such as copper, plastic, coupons, and electronics, not counting purchases in the market.
- Brawls - players fight against each other in fights without rules. The mode includes several types of battles: “Each for himself” (the player wins, on the account of which 10 kills will be the fastest). “Storm warning” (the goal of the battle is to survive, which the opponents are actively trying to prevent and the storm on the map, falling into it instantly breaks the chances of a successful outcome of the fight). "Race" (your task is to drive all the marks first. All installed guns will be deactivated). "Big Black Scorpions" (the winner is the one who will destroy most of the enemies on a unique technique, with weapons of the "UI Scorpion" and vertical accelerators).
- Clan battles - as part of the regime, the battle of teams for a particularly valuable resource - uranium ore - will unfold. Players are encouraged to create their own clan team of 4 people and fight the enemy for possession of a valuable resource for creating parts. [7]
- Rating battles - battles against others (PvP) by teams of 4 to 4. Selection of opponents is based on rating points, which increase with each victory and decrease with defeat; players are not balanced by “power points”. Only full teams are assembled (4 real players each), in case of a player leaving at the beginning of the battle, there is no replacement with a bot or another player, and with the player who left, the rating points will be removed as a defeat. Rating battles are divided into seasons of 2 weeks, after which, players who are in the TOP 100 of the rating table will receive a reward, depending on the place taken. ATTENTION! Rating battles are temporarily unavailable from January 1, 2018.
- Special fights are fights that temporarily appear during some in-game event.
Player Development
The player’s development system in Crossout is implemented using the so-called “fractions”. In total, seven fractions are represented in the game: the neutral fraction of the Mechanics and the additional fractions - Mad, Fire-worshipers, Wanderers, Scavengers, Steppe Wolves and Children of Dawn. If you increase the level of reputation with any fraction, the player receives reward for the details of the “Construction” class - bumpers, cladding details, frame details, etc. - which cannot be obtained in any other way. In addition, the Mechanics faction rewards the player with new paints, portraits for the profile (now in the 0.10.25.103490 update there is a background and an emblem) and an increase in the maximum number of parts in the design of the machine. Players can create various parts and weapons on fractions machines, each of which has its own fighting style. For fast vehicles with contact weapons, one should go to the Mad Men, for a combination of the old air power, retro style and conducting a mid-range battle to the Wanderers; “Scavengers” will help in creating heavy equipment, and the latest army news should be found in the garage of “Steppe Wolves” [2] . For the flight and use of futuristic weapons, it will require the development of brilliant scientists using Icarus VII vertical rocket boosters and energy weapons from the Children of the Dawn fraction [8] . And in order to assemble a crazy hot rod with flamethrowers, you will need the skills of “Fire-worshipers”.
Market
The Crossout market is a trading platform where players are given the opportunity to buy and sell any resources and details (except for starting and “Construction” class parts, which are issued as a reward for increasing reputation levels among factions). Moreover, trade is conducted exclusively for coins, and a direct exchange of goods for goods is not available [2] .
Development
On May 20, 2015, both [9] [10] Crossout development companies announced that they would create an MMO post-apocalypse game . As conceived by the developers, the game should have been monetized according to the free-to-play model. Alpha testing of the game took place in the summer of 2015, the game was called Battle Test [11] . In the same year, the game appeared at the E3 2015 exhibition [12] . After that (all the same in 2015), the game could be played at gamescom , the game was in the closed zone of Gaijin Entertainment , the players received a promo code that allowed them to participate in further testing. On April 5, 2016, the stage of closed beta testing of the game [13] began . Open beta testing began on May 30, 2017 - the game became available on PC and on game consoles [14] .
