Description

Small reddish-brown ants about 5 mm long. It differs in large lobes at the bend of the scape of the antennae, a narrow forehead, and long spines of the posterior breast. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two segments: the petiolus and postpetiolus (the latter is clearly separated from the abdomen), the sting is developed, pupae are naked (without cocoon). It prefers semi-xerophilic biotopes and open and bright forests at heights from 800 to 1800 m [1] [4] .

Systematics

Myrmica ravasinii is close to the species Myrmica pelops (Greece) and belongs to the species group schencki group. The species was first described in 1923 by the Italian worldmecologist and teacher Bruno Finzi (1897-1941) and named after the Italian doctor and entomologist Professor Carlo Ravasini (Prof. Carlo Ravasini ; 1874-1959, Trieste), who found the type series during his expedition to Albania [5] [6] .
