Biography
Paul Bernard was born on September 21, 1898 in Villeneuve-sur-Lo (department of Lo and Garonne in France) in a modest family. He worked in the apparatus of the Ministry of Finance of France. During the First World War he participated in hostilities, was wounded. After the war, Bernard studied drama at the Paris Conservatory.
Paul Bernard made his film debut in 1922. In 1924 he first performed on the stage. The first notable film role was played by Bernard in the film " Pension" Mimosa " " (1934) directed by Jacques Fader . From 1937 until the mid-1940s he worked mainly in the theater.
During his film career, Paul Bernard starred in such famous French directors as Sacha Guitry (“My father was right”, 1936), Jean Gremillon (“Summer Light”, 1943; “White Paws”, 1949), Julien Duvivier (“Panic” ", 1946), Christian-Jacques (" Hopeless Journey ", 1943), Robert Bresson (" Ladies of the Bois de Boulogne ", 1945), Andre Cayatat (" Roger Ganba ", 1945), Rene Clement (" Damned ", 1947) and etc.

During one of the rehearsals, the actor was hospitalized. A few days later, on May 5, 1958, Paul Bernard died of cancer in his 60th year of life.
