The Kherson Musical College is a two-story building on Suvorov Street, the former home of Bilik, now Kherson School No. 16.
History
On May 18, 1905, a branch of the Imperial Russian Musical Society with music classes opened here. The first heads of the department were the governor of Kherson province V.A. Levashov, Prince S.D. Gorchakov, G.L. Skadovsky, M.E. Becker and A.K. Paramonov. The director of music classes is Ya.V. Dumin.
October 16, 1905 the official opening took place. In the first year, 117 students were enrolled. The institution included classes for playing the piano, singing, playing the violin, cello, all wind instruments, elementary theory and solfeggio.
September 1, 1908 music classes were transformed into a music school, whose director was appointed Ya.V. Dumin. In the summer of 1908, at the initiative of the head of the school, permanent summer choral courses were opened for the rural population. In parallel with them, summer Kapellmeister courses are established in the summer of 1911.
From 1915 to 1919, the school stopped working. In place of the former Higher Imperial College of Music, School No. 17 is established. During the Second World War, the front hospital is located here. In the postwar years, the building is occupied by school number 16.
In fact, the music school resumes work in 1959, when it was returned to the system of educational institutions of musical art. Classes of pianos, strings, and, since 1961, the department of the theory of music, on which the composition class has been working since 1975, are opening.
In 1991, the school received a new room on Ushakov Avenue with two concert halls and classrooms for group lessons. To date, the school has more than 300 students and 120 teachers, accompanists.
Over the entire history of its existence, more than 7 thousand graduates graduated from the school. Among them are laureates and diploma winners of competitions, national and honored artists of Ukraine and other republics of the former Union, honored artists, candidates of science, professors, associate professors, teachers, graduate students of musical universities, artists and soloists of theaters, orchestras, concert organizations, conductors, composers, musicologists, folklorists, teachers of secondary schools and children's music schools, art schools, general education schools.
