Rötsley Crater ( lat.Wrottesley ) - a large impact crater in the southeast coast of the Sea of Plenty on the visible side of the Moon . The name was given in honor of the English astronomer John Rothsley (1798-1867) and approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1935. The formation of the crater dates back to the Late Umbrian period [1] .

Crater Description
The closest neighbors of Rothsley Crater are Bio Crater in the west-north-west; Holden Crater in the northeast; Petavius crater in the southeast and Snellius crater in the south. To the northwest of the crater is the Sea of Plenty ; in the southwest Snellius Valley [2] . Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 58.4 km [3] , depth 4230 m [4] .
The crater has a polygonal shape with a small protrusion in the southern part and is practically not destroyed. A shaft with a clearly defined edge, the inner slope of the shaft is a terrace-like structure, with traces of collapse. In the southeast, between the ramparts of the Rothsley and Petavius craters, there is a narrow valley. The shaft height above the surrounding area reaches 1180 m [1] , the volume of the crater is approximately 2700 km³ [1] . The bottom of the bowl is crossed, with an abundance of single small hills. In the center of the bowl is an array of peaks 1400 m high [5] .
