Extreme-40 - a class of racing sailing catamarans . The hull has a length of 40 feet [1] (12 meters) and is made of carbon fiber . It develops speed up to 40 knots (74 km / h) and is able to go at a speed of 35 knots (65 km / h) with a wind of 20-25 knots [2] . In terms of the ratio of hull dimensions and load on sails, Extreme-40 is a greatly enlarged version of the Tornado racing catamaran, the former Olympic class. Designed by French yachtsman and designer Yves Lode, 1992 Olympic champion in the Tornado class. First introduced in 2005. On catamarans of this type from 2007 to 2015. conducted the Extreme Sailing Series , formerly known as the iShares Cup [3] .
