Biography
One of the three sons of Toirdelbach Wa Briein (1009-1086), King Munster (1064-1086) and the High King of Ireland (1072-1086). His mother was Dubhobleig (d. 1088 ) from the Wye Hennselaig clan. He had two half-brothers - Tadg (d. 1086) and Muirhertah (d. 1119).
In 1086, after the death of Toyrdelbach Wa Briein, the kingdom of Munster was divided between his three sons: Tadg, Muerkertah and Diarmaitom. A month after the death of his father, Tadg died. Muirhertah Wa Bryayn expelled his brother Diarmait and began to rule in the kingdom alone. It is believed that Diarmight Wa Briein was the commander of the Irish Navy, who participated in the Battle of Meenth-Karne on the side of King Deheybart Rhys ap Teudur .
In 1093, Diarmite Wa Briein reconciled with his older brother, King of Munster Muirhertah, and received the title of Dux of Waterford. In 1114 , taking advantage of the disease of Muirhertah Wa Briein, Diarmait seized the royal throne of Munster and expelled his brother from the kingdom. For four years, Diarmait was forced to wage an internecine struggle for power with his brother. In the following years, Muirhertach gathered his strength and won the throne from his brother. In 1116, Diarmait attacked Muirhertach Wa Briein and Brian Wa Briein, besieging Limerick .
In 1118, Diarmight Wa Briein passed away in Cork . In the same year, King Connacht Toirdelbach Uah Konhobayr invaded Munster and divided the kingdom between the sons of Diarmait Wa Briand and Thadg McCarthy. Conkhobar Wa Bryayn received Thomond , and Toyrdelbach McCarthy began to rule in Desmond .
