Biography
The son of Frederick van Egmont , Count van Buuren and Lerdam, and Aleida van Culemborg.
In 1490 he became chamberlain of Archduke Philip the Beautiful . He accompanied him in Spain in 1501-1503.
In 1505, at the chapter in Middelburg, he was knighted by the Order of the Golden Fleece . The following year he became a member of the council under Margarita of Austria .
In the years 1507-1511 he was a stauder of Geldern captured by the Habsburgs. After the acquisition by Archduke Charles of part of Friesland , he became in 1515 the first stathauder of this province. He fought with a party of supporters of the Duke of Geldern .
During the Italian war of 1521-1526 in 1522 he commanded the Flemish units in the war against France, captured Dullan , and together with the British reached Corby . The following year, he also made a deep invasion, taking several cities and stopping at eleven hours from Paris.
In 1528 he successfully fought against the Duke of Geldern. Since 1531 he was a member of the Dutch State Council. In 1536, he actively participated in the conclusion of an agreement between Charles V and the Duke of Geldern.
During the Italian war of 1536-1538 in 1537 he was appointed lieutenant and captain-general of Charles V in the Netherlands. He commanded the army invading France, in June captured and completely burned Saint-Paul , massacre there, then he took Montreux , and then besieged Therouan . The army of the montable Montmorency was preparing to give battle under the walls of the city, when news came of the conclusion of a truce on July 30 in Bommy-le-Teruant.
