History
The city was founded on September 17, 1897 by General Manuel Tejada Sanchez, in whose honor he received his name. The municipality of Puerto Tejada was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1912 [1] .
Geography
Puerto Tejada is located 108 kilometers from the capital of the Cauca department of Popayana and 17 kilometers from the capital of the neighboring department of Valle del Cauca , Cali [1] .
Economics
The basis of the economy of the municipality is traditionally agriculture [1] .
Incidents
- On October 19, 2011 in Puerto Tejada, a Colombian footballer received gunshot wounds, which eventually became fatal. The cause of the murder was a dispute that arose during a game of cards [2] .
