Story

Dr. Mark Green is faced with the case of a pregnant woman suffering from complications that seriously threaten her life and her unborn child. Elsewhere, a teenager was accidentally poisoned with insecticides, and Dr. Peter Benton has to cope with the fall of his mother.

Reaction

During the original show, "The Fruitless Efforts of Love" took first place in the weekly ratings on March 12, 1995, with a Nielsen rating of 24.2. It was the highest-rated show on NBC with Seinfeld in second place and Friends in third. [1] In 1997, “ TV Guide ” put him in third place on the list of “100 Great Episodes of All Time”. [2] In 2009, he finished sixth. [3] The show's producers also consider it one of the best episodes of Ambulance , and John Wells says he holds it as "an example of how everyone creatively participates in what could be the very best in the show." [four]

The episode earned screenwriter Lance Gentile the Emmy Award for Best Screenplay for a Drama Series at the 47th Awards Ceremony , including the U.S. Scriptwriters Guild Award for Best Screenplay for an episode of a drama series at a 1995 award ceremony. [5] The episode also earned an Emmy Award for Mimi Leder for Best Director of a Drama Series , as well as a nomination for the Director's Guild Award for Best Director of a Drama Series at a ceremony in 1995. Colleen Flynn earned an Emmy Award nomination as Best Guest Actress in a drama series for her role in this episode, which was her only performance in the series. The episode has earned many other Emmy awards: the best individual editing achievements on the show for Randy John Morgan and Rick Tuber; the best individual achievements in sound in the series for Walter Newman, John Voss Bonds Jr., Rick Camera, Stephen M. Sachs, John F. Reynolds, Katherine Flynn, Thomas A. Harris, Susan Mick, Casey J. Crabtree and James Bailey; as well as the best individual achievements in sound editing in a drama series for Russell J. Fager, Michael Giron, Allen L. Stone and Frank Jones. The episode also won the Eddie Award for best editing of the one-hour episode in the series for Randy John Morgan and Rick Tuber.
