Maria Kovnatskaya ( Polish: Maria Kownacka ; September 11, 1894 , p. Slup (now the Masovian Voivodeship of Poland) - February 27, 1982 , Warsaw ) is a Polish children's writer , playwright and translator from Russian. Winner of the Prize of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Poland (1951, 1976)

Biography

Early left an orphan. In 1914-1915 and 1918-1919 she taught. She made her debut in 1919 in the children's magazines Płomyczek and Płomyk, and later collaborated with many children's magazines in Poland.

Due to illness of the larynx, she left the profession of a teacher. She moved to Warsaw, graduated from library courses and began to work in her specialty. She took an active part in the creative activities of the Association of Children's Workers. In 1928 she was one of the organizers of the Bai Theater.

During the Warsaw Uprising of 1944 - co-editor of children's magazines “Jawnutka” (later “Children's Diary”). After the war, she devoted herself completely to literary creation.

He is the author of numerous works for children, fairy tales, funny stories, plays, especially for puppet theaters , etc.

She was buried at the Old Powzki cemetery in Warsaw.
