Thermus thermophilus (lat.) Is a type of gram - negative bacteria , whose representatives are widely used in biotechnology as a model organism for genetic engineering , structural genomics and system biology , as well as in molecular biology for determining the structure of such many important biomolecules, such as ribosomes or complex I. This bacterium is an extreme thermophile with an optimal temperature for growth of 65 ° C. Thermus thermophilus was first isolated by Tairo Oshima and Katsutomo Imakhori from a geothermal spring in the city of Izu , Japan [1] . It was later discovered that this organism plays an important role in the decomposition of organic substances during the thermogenic phase of compost formation [2] . The species is divided into several strains , of which HB8 and HB27 are most often used for laboratory work. Analysis of the genome of these strains was independently done in 2004 [3] .

rTth DNA polymerase is a recombinant thermostable DNA polymerase from Thermus thermophilus with a temperature optimum of 70-80 ° C. It is used in the formulation of certain types of PCR . In the presence of manganese, the enzyme acquires a strongly pronounced reverse transcriptase activity.
