Peter Ries ( German: Peter Rieß , June 27, 1805 - October 23, 1883 ) - German physicist , member of the Berlin Academy of Sciences since 1842 . His works at first, on magnetism in general and terrestrial magnetism in particular, were mainly published in Pogg. Ann. ” Around 1836, he changed the direction of his work, turning mainly to electricity (a list of Ries's works in the Poggendorf bibliography, vol. 2, 1863, and vol. 3, 1896–98) and in his work Die Lehre von der Reibungselektrizität ( 1853 ) gave a very rich experimental material on the distribution of electricity on the surface of bodies, for the installation of electrometers , electrostatic induction, etc.
