Meunier, Tom

Meunier was born in the commune of Saint-Aude , in the province of Luxembourg . He started playing football at the local club Saint-Aude. At the youth level, he also played in the “Live”, “ Standard ” and “Virton” clubs.

In 2009, Meunier moved to the first Virton team. The club spent two seasons. In total, the club has played 50 matches.

In January 2011, he signed a contract with Brugge , according to which Meunier was supposed to join the club in the summer. A few days earlier, Brugge missed the opportunity to sign Jelle Van Damme and Dalibor Veselinovich. In this regard, the club decided to play it safe by signing the Meunnier in advance. Thus, Brugge won competition from other Belgian clubs that were interested in acquiring Meunier, in particular, Anderlecht , Standard , Saint-Truiden and Zulte Waregem ^[2] .

July 31, 2011, Brugge held their first match in the 2011/12 season against Westerlo . Meunier made his debut in this match and played 20 minutes ^[3] . At that moment, Meunnier played mainly on the positions of a striker or a right winger . Later, coaches Juan Carlos Garrido and Georges Lekens reclassified him as a right back due to the lack of players in this position after injuries to Tom Högli and Davy De Fauva. Meunier quickly established himself in the club and entrenched in the starting lineup. The next season, Meni began also actively. In the qualifying stage of the Europa League scored the decisive goal against “ Charleroi ”. But then, at the end of August, Meunier injured his ankle and was out of action until December.

July 3, 2016 moved to Paris Saint-Germain for 7 million euros. The contract was signed until 2020.

In September 2011, Meunier was called to the youth team of Belgium to participate in the qualifying match of the European Championship 2013 among youth teams against peers from the youth team of Azerbaijan ^[4] . In this match, Meunier scored his first goal internationally. November 14, 2013 he made his debut in the national team of Belgium in a friendly match against the national team of Colombia , which was held in preparation for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil . Meunier also played in two friendly matches against Japan (2: 3) and Iceland (3: 1).

Differs universal technique. In addition to its position, it can play both in attack and on both flanks of the midfield. It has a good starting and remote speed. Meunier became the subject of criticism and fierce discussions from Brugge fans after the local newspaper Het Nieuwsblad published a report that, as a child, he supported Anderlecht , a principled opponent of Black and Blue. Meunier himself claimed that he had never publicly declared his addiction to Anderlecht.
