Society of St. John ( Communauté Saint-Jean ) Catholic congregation was founded by French Dominican father Marie-Dominic Philippe (1912-2006) in 1975 in Friborg . Brothers of the community - nicknamed the little gray ones, because of their gray vestments with gray scapularity, look like the black clothes of the Benedictines , they wear a leather belt and a rosary at the waist. Contemplative sisters also wear a white veil and apostolic sisters gray.
Since 1986, the society of the brothers of St. John the religious institute of diocesan law depends on Bishop Autun (Autun, France ), that is, under the authority of the local Catholic Church.
They are located in a small community in Russia in Nalchik , where they preach, engage in catechesis and affairs with social work and rehabilitation.
Number of brothers: 524 in the world (60% in France) in 2015. There are also branches of apostolic sisters and contemplative sisters (about 350) and tertiary , laity who live in peace.
