Amsterdam Underground Museum

Amsterdam Underground Museum ( Amsterdam Dungeon ) is a museum, theater and attraction in the city of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, owned by the British company , which owns similar museums in Blackpool , Edinburgh , London , York , Berlin and Hamburg . The museum's program includes eleven performances with special effects that tell about gloomy pages in the history of the city during the Middle Ages and the New Age .

History

The Amsterdam Underground Museum was opened by British Entertainment Merlin on Rokin Street in Amsterdam in September 2005. In the building that the museum occupies, in 1345 the so-called “ ” occurred. In memory of this event in the Middle Ages “Silent Processions” took place near the building. In 1345–1347, a church was built on the site of the miracle, known as the “ ”.

The building is included in the list of historical monuments of the Netherlands and is under state protection. Before the opening of the museum’s exposition, archaeological excavations were carried out here for the first time, during which the family burial of the wealthy merchant Gerrit Geirtsen Dothoft was discovered. The building also housed a mosque, hotel and residents' apartments.

Exposition

The exposition of the museum is a mirror labyrinth and a short video about a coaster. A troupe of 30 actors participates in 11 performances, the plot of which is based on "dark pages" in the history of Amsterdam.

  • the last trip with death on the steep slides around the medieval church (the attraction was closed in May 2014).
