Evergreen perennial, woody plant at the base. There is a rosette of leaves. Leaves from whole to pinnately incised, thin or slightly leathery. Yellow flowers, externally with a green stripe on the back [ clarify ] located on long stems up to 60 cm, anthers yellow. Blossoms and bears fruit from February to May (June).
The species is common in southern Europe, North Africa, Western Asia. Typical places where the species grows are sea cliffs, walls and roadsides, as well as fields. Plants can be found up to 1000 m above sea level.
Its leaves are used to make salads. Due to the bitter taste, they go well with sweet and sour sauce.
