The Ricci crater ( lat. Riccius ), not to be confused with Richie's crater ( lat. Ritchey ), as well as Richie's crater on Mars , is a large ancient impact crater in the southern hemisphere of the visible side of the moon . The name was given in honor of the Italian astronomer Augustin Ricci (XVI century) and the Italian mathematician, cartographer and translator Matteo Ricci (1552-1610); approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1935. The formation of the crater belongs to the pre-sectarian period [1] .

Crater Description
The nearest neighbors of the Ricci crater are Rabbi Levi Crater in the northwest; crater Steeberl in the northeast; the crater of Voler in the east-southeast; the crater of Nikolai in the south and the crater of Buching in the west-south-west [2] . The selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater are , diameter 71.8 km [3] , depth 1720 m [4] .
Ricci crater is almost completely destroyed for a long time of its existence. The shaft was preserved in the western and southwestern parts, along the remaining perimeter it was destroyed and blocked by craters of various sizes occupying also the southern and northern parts of the bowl. The rest of the bowl is heavily crossed.
