James Caird [1] is a small Martian impact crater located on the plateau of Meridian . The coordinates of the crater - . The crater visited the Opportunity rover March 18-19, 2005 (408-409 sol ) [1] . The diameter of the crater is about 14 meters . Inside the crater there are a few outcrops of rocks. The crater is located about 620 m south of Vostok Crater and 1.9 km north of Erebus Crater. To the south of it are two registered craters that the rover also visited - Viking ( 850 m ) and Voyager ( 945 m ). Studies of the crater were limited to its visual inspection (of no scientific value). It was used as a guideline for accurately determining the location of the rover in satellite imagery. The crater is unofficially named after the financier of the expedition Ernest Shackleton to the Antarctic on the ship " Endurance " (an eponym of the Martian crater Endurance ) [1] .
