Biography
Born in the family of a geometer, in 1791 entered the military service as a volunteer of the 5th battalion of the Oise, participated in the campaign of 1792 in the ranks of the Moselle army, in 1793 entered the School of Military Engineers, from where he was released in 1794 with the rank of junior lieutenant, distinguished himself in the battle of June 26, 1794 at Fleurus, March 21, 1795 - lieutenant, July 3, 1795 - captain, fought in the Rhine-Moselle army, distinguished himself during the siege of Mainz. On September 17, 1796, he was captured at Kehl, but already on July 20, 1797, he received his freedom and the following year was seconded to the headquarters of the Danube Army.
He took part in the campaigns of 1805, 1806 and 1807 as part of the Legrand division , fought at Ulm, Austerlitz, Jena and Lübeck. On January 5, 1807, he was promoted to battalion commander, was in the 4th corps , distinguished himself in the battles of Eylau and Heilsberg. On October 22, 1808, he was awarded the title Colonel of Staff with an appointment to the Rhine Army .
