Biography
Adosinda was the daughter of Alfonso I the Catholic , king of Asturias, and Queen Hermesinda. From her father’s side she was the granddaughter of Duke Pedro of Cantabria , and from her mother’s granddaughter Pelayo , the first king of Asturias, and his wife, Queen of Gaudios. Adosinda was also the sister of King Fruela I , and after killing the latter, she, fearing for the life of her nephew Alfonso , the son of Fruela, sent him to the monastery of San Julian de Samos, Lugo .
After the murder, Fruela Adosinda remained at court under the protection of King Aurelio , where she met Silo , a Galician nobleman. She chose him as her husband, which was rare at the time, and after Aurelio’s death in 774, her husband, Silo, became king of Asturias, and Adosinda became queen. Her husband ruled Asturias from 774 to 783.
When her husband died in 783 , Adcinda took part in the election of his successor, who turned out to be her nephew Alfonso, son of Froula I. However, Mauregato , Adosinda's brother, dismissed Alfonso II from the throne, forcing him to take refuge in Alava .
Due to the support given by Alfonso, Adosinda fell into disgrace at the court of Mauregato and was forced to go to the monastery of San Juan de Santianes Pravia [1] . Some authors suggest that she lived in a monastery until her death. Date of death Adosinda unknown. Perhaps the last mention of Queen Adosinda may be dated November 26, 783 or 785, when she was present at the dispute of her confessor Beat Liebansky and Eteriya Oksomensky with Elipand of Toledo .
After the death, the body of Queen Adosinda was buried in the church of San Juan de Santianes Pravia, where her husband, King Silo, who ordered the construction of this church, were buried. The church has a grave preserved in which, as expected, the remains of the king and his wife [2] . In the same church was buried King Moureggato.
