Maren Hammerschmidt ( German: Maren Hammerschmidt ; October 24, 1989 , Frankenberg ) is a German biathlete , the 2017 world relay champion . Bronze medalist of the world championship 2016 in the relay. Prizewinner of the World Cup , medalist of the European Championships in the relay, three-time world champion among juniors.

Career

Maren Hammerschmidt started biathlon with her twin sister Janine. Her first international competition was the 2007 European Youth Olympic Festival , which was held in the Spanish city of Jaca . There, the young biathlete received a bronze medal in the pursuit.

In 2008, Maren Hammerschmidt successfully performed at the World Junior Championships in Ruhpolding , where she became a two-time world champion: in the sprint and relay race. And in 2010, at a similar competition in Thorsby in the senior category, the athlete again won the gold medal in the sprint, and as part of the German trio won the bronze medal.

In the 2009/2010 season, the athlete made her debut at the IBU Cup .

The first European Championship for Maren was the championship in 2012 in Osrblie , where she won a bronze medal with her teammates. Having successfully performed at the IBU Cup throughout the season, she won this honorary trophy and, thanks to this successful performance, made her debut at the World Cup finals in Khanty-Mansiysk and received her first World Cup points, finishing in sprint in 34th place.

At the European Championships 2014 and 2015, Hammerschmidt received silver medals as part of the German relay team.

In the 2015/2016 season, the athlete started again in the World Cup races. At the first stage in Ostersund, Sweden, in the solo mixed relay race with Daniel Böhm, they finished in third place, and at the second stage in the Austrian Hochfilzen, the German woman first got on the podium - becoming twice the second: in sprint and pursuit, losing only to her compatriots Francis Hildebrand and Laura Dahlmeier accordingly.

At the 2017 World Cup in Hochfilzen, Austria, the German national team consisting of Vanessa Hinz, Maren Hammerschmidt, Francis Hildebrand and Laura Dahlmeier became the world champion.
