Heraskov, Mikhail Ivanovich

Mikhail Ivanovich Kheraskov ( 1836 , the village of Kuchki , Yuryevsky uyezd , Vladimir province - September 9 ( 22 ), 1901 , Vladimir , Russian Empire ) - clergyman of the Russian Orthodox Church , archpriest , rector of the Vladimir Theological Seminary (1879–1888), one of the founders of the Vladimir diocesan school , biblical scholar , teacher, writer.

Biography

Born in 1836 in the village of Kuchki, Yuryevsky district, Vladimir province, in a priest's family.

In 1855 he graduated from Vladimir Theological Seminary [1] .

After graduating in 1859 with a master's degree in theology from the Kiev Theological Academy , he was a teacher in the Nizhny Novgorod and Vladimir Theological Seminaries.

In 1865, he became one of the founders of the Vladimir Diocesan Women's School , in which he was an inspector.

On May 10, 1878, he was elected rector of the pedagogical assembly of the board of the Vladimir Theological Seminary , and on June 18, 1878 he was elevated to the rank of archpriest . He was considered a good preacher, a talented teacher and a biblical scholar [2] . On January 27, 1889, according to his own request, he was relieved of the post of rector and on May 16 he was appointed rector of the cathedral of the city of Suzdal.

He was a member of the county school council, a member of the censorship committee at the Vladimir Theological Consistory, a reviewer in the Vladimir Diocesan Vedomosti, the head of the Sunday school, and a member of the pedagogical meetings of the Seminary Board. He was entrusted with reviewing materials for the award of Metropolitan Macarius .

He died on September 9/22, 1901 in Vladimir.

A number of pedagogical articles were published in the Vladimir diocesan sheets. His textbooks - "A Guide to the Consistent Reading of the Five Books of Moses" and "Review of the Books of the Old Testament" - were awarded a full prize by the Study Committee at the Holy Synod and during the time of Heraskov the first was reprinted five times, the second - three.
