History
Due to the danger of the penetration of the Islamic state into the water area of ββthe Persian Gulf, the Secretary General of the GCC in Kuwait voiced the possibility of creating a combined naval force of the Arab monarchies of the Persian Gulf. [one]
Organizational composition
The number is 4.5 thousand people. The Omani Navy includes a flotilla of the Sultan's Guard and coast guard. [2]
Base Points
The headquarters of the Navy of Oman is located in the suburbs of Muscat . Military bases are located in the city of Saeed Bin Sultan. There is also a military base in Mina Salalah.
Military equipment
In service with the Navy of Oman are:
Two corvettes of the Kharif type. Displacement - 2,700 tons (full). Length - 99 meters, width - 14.6 meters, draft - 4.1 meters. The maximum speed is 25 knots . Armament: two four-container launchers of anti-ship missile launcher Exozet, two six-container launchers of anti-aircraft missile systems MICA-VL, one 76-mm and two 30-mm anti-aircraft guns. In the aft part of the ship is equipped with a take-off and landing platform for the Super Link helicopter. Ships were built in Portsmouth ( UK ).
Al-Shamikh (tail number - Q40), entered the fleet in 2012
Al-Rahmani (tail number Q41), entered the fleet in 2014
The third corvette of this type - Al-Rasih (tail number - Q42) is currently undergoing sea trials
Two corvettes of the Kahir type. Displacement - 1,185 tons. Armament: two four-container launchers of the RCC Exozet, two launchers of the Krotal air defense system (ammunition - 16 missiles), one 76-mm and two 30-mm AS.
Kahir Al-Amwaj (tail number Q31) entered the fleet in 1994
Al-Muazzar (tail number Q32), entered the fleet in 1995
Also in service with the Navy of Oman are:
four RPVs of the Provins type (tail numbers - B10, B11, B12, B14) with a displacement of 390 tons, equipped with two four-container launchers of the RCC Exocet;
Training vessel used as a patrol ship (tail number - Q30);
Three large Al-Bushra-type PKAs (tail numbers - Zl, Z2, Z3);
Three landing boats (DKA)
The armament of a separate division of the Sultan's yachts (the only such division in the world) consists of Al Said , Al-Noores auxiliary vessel, Fulk al Salamah amphibious assault ship, Loaloat Al Behar yacht, Shabab Oman training ship
The arsenal of the maritime police consists of 55 boats.
