During the reign of Xerxes I Gidarn was one of the commanders of the Second Persian campaign against Greece in 480 BC. e., commanded the " immortal ", while his brother Sisamn led the contingent of inhabitants of satrapy Aria [1] .
On the first day of the Battle of Thermopylae, Ghidarn led a myriad of "immortals" against the phalanx of the Spartans Leonid , but an attempt to break through their ranks failed [2] . On the second day, the local inhabitant Efialt betrayed the Spartans, telling the Persians about a secret goat path bypassing Thermopyles, which allowed Gidarn and his "immortals" to bypass the Spartans and defeat them [3] .
After the defeat of the Persians in the battle of Salamis, Xerxes I decided to return to Asia, leaving a large army under the command of Mardonius for the winter in Thessaly . Gidarn chose to stay with the king and return with him to Asia, so Xerxes entrusted Gidarn to gather the Persian army and transfer it to Asia through the Hellespont [4] . After this event, the name Gidarna is no longer mentioned in the sources .
