Career

In his native Glazov he began to engage in wrestling. At 15, he retrained as a nuclear pusher. After a year of service in the missile forces in Novosibirsk, he was transferred to Alma-Ata in SKA. After the end of the service he returned to Glazov, trained for some time in Izhevsk, Moscow. Twice became the winner of the USSR championship.

And in 1993 he returned to Alma-Ata. In the career of Sergei Rubtsov, several pedestals at the Asian Championships, Asian Games.

Rubtsov is the holder of records in Kazakhstan both in the hall and in the open air.

Participant in the 1996 and 2000 Olympics. Member of three world championships.

Powerlifting

At the end of his active career, he began performing in powerlifting competitions. In the years of the USSR, he was already engaged in this sport, and in 1992 he even became a bronze medalist of the USSR Championship and even took part in the 1991 World Championship in Birmingham , where he took ninth place in the category of over 125 kg with a score of 870 kg (210 + 310 + 350 )

At the WPC World Powerlifting Championship 2013 (Prague, Czech Republic) in the super heavy weight category of over 140 kg, Sergey Rubtsov won 3 gold medals (in bench press, deadlift and powerlifting among veterans) and one silver medal (in the open powerlifting championship). At the same time, S. Rubtsov showed a phenomenal result in deadlift, lifting a barbell weighing 340 kg [2] .

At the 2014 World Championships in Miami, Sergey Rubtsov won prestigious gold in the open championship among men over 140 kg. At the age of 50, he confidently became the strongest heavyweight athlete on the planet. In the standings of the masters (veterans) Sergey immediately updated 5 world records [3] .
