Indonesian-Uzbek relations

Indonesian-Uzbek relations - bilateral diplomatic and economic relations between Indonesia and Uzbekistan . They were officially installed on June 23, 1992. Each of these countries recognizes the importance of the potential of the other. Thus, Uzbekistan recognizes the strategic importance of Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim state and the largest economy of Southeast Asia , and Indonesia considers Uzbekistan a gateway to Central Asia and a potential market [1] [2] . The population of both countries is predominantly Muslim; both Uzbekistan and Indonesia are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation .

History

Historical relations between the republics began long before the independence of Uzbekistan. In 1961, the leader of Indonesia, Sukarno, visited the Mausoleum of Imam Muhammad al-Bukhari in Samarkand during a visit to the Soviet Union [3] .

December 28, 1991, Indonesia recognized the independence of Uzbekistan from the disintegrated USSR. Diplomatic relations were established during the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Indonesia. Indonesia opened an embassy in Tashkent in May 1994, and the Embassy of Uzbekistan was opened in Jakarta in 1996 [4] .

Trade and Investment

The trade turnover of the two countries is 10-30 million US dollars. In 2007, it amounted to 28.27 million dollars, in 2008 - 13.75 million dollars. Uzbekistan exports to Indonesia electrical equipment, wool, cotton and felt. Indonesia, on the other hand, exports cocoa, tea, tobacco, vegetable and animal oils, tires, embroidery and various small products [4] .

Culture

In 2001, a center for studying the Indonesian language was opened in Samarkand, in which more than twenty students study annually. Indonesian is also taught at the Samarkand State Institute of World Languages ​​and the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. Cultural exchanges between countries often contribute to improving relations. On May 1, 2013, Indonesian dances performed by Uzbek dancers were shown in the hall of the Conservatory of Tashkent [5] .
