Division Formation
The 21st mixed aviation division was formed in August 1940 on the basis of the Decree of the USSR SNK [1] on the basis of the 43rd Fighter Brigade of the Air Force of the Odessa Military District.
Division disbandment
The 21st mixed aviation division was disbanded on April 24, 1942 as part of the Air Force of the Southern Front .

First air battle victories
The first known victories in air battles in World War II were won:
- On June 23, 1941, pilots of the 67th IAP in group air battles near the town of Bolgrad shot down, according to various sources, from 14 to 18 enemy aircraft [6] .
- On June 24, 1941, the pilots of the 69th IAP, deputy regiment commander, Major L. L. Shestakov, and Captain M. E. Astashkin shot down 3 aircraft: 2 Ju-88 were destroyed over Chisinau, and Do-215 Astashkin shot down on the outskirts of the airfield, having won your second win.
