Biography

Born in the village of Kobenevo, Ostashkovsky district, Tver province in a peasant family [1] . After graduating from eight classes, Nikolai began working in the newspaper Leninsky Drummer. At this work, he met with Lisa Chaykina , who at that time was the secretary of the Penovsky district committee of the Komsomol [2] [3] [4] .

World War II

The news of the beginning of the war caught Belyaev during the delivery of the TRP standards [4] . June 29, 1941 in the Penovo District Military Commissariat, he volunteered for the front [2] [5] [6] [7] . As part of the Northern , later Karelian Front, from August 13, 1941 he participated in the defense of Murmansk [5] [8] . He began his combat service as a carrier in the third mortar company of the 58th Rifle Regiment of the 52nd Rifle Division , which on December 25, 1941 became the 10th Guards [9] . Since August 16, 1943 he was transferred to the 127th Separate Rifle Brigade of the North-Western Front , where he participated in the liberation of Staraya Russa with the rank of guard of the senior sergeant [5] . During the battles on the outskirts of the city , he was wounded on August 18 [10] , but remained in service until August 21 and commanded the 50 mm mortar squad, for which he was awarded the medal "For Military Merit" [8] .

After the hospital, he graduated from officer classes and received the rank of lieutenant [10] . Upon returning to the active army as part of the 756th Infantry Regiment of the 150th Infantry Division of the 3rd Shock Army of the 2nd Baltic Front , he was easily wounded for the second time as a Komsomol . He distinguished himself during the battles on the right bank of Iviekste , for which he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree [11] .

In January 1945, the 3rd shock army was transferred to the 1st Belorussian Front . As part of the unit, N. M. Belyaev participated in the liberation of Warsaw [3] . During the battles for the liberation of the city, Vangerin launched an attack on the soldier, for which he was presented with the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, but received the Order of the Red Star [12] .

On April 29, 1945, for the skillful organization of Komsomol work in the regiment, Belyaev was introduced to the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree. He was awarded it after the victory, in June [13] .

During the assault, the Reichstag was in the cover group, following the banner group of Mikhail Egorov and Meliton Cantaria , who established the Victory Banner [14] [15] . Before this, during one of the attempts to establish a makeshift banner, his friend Pyotr Pyatnitsky died [16] . After the surrender of the Reichstag garrison, he left the inscription “Our Lisa” on the wall of the building in memory of Lisa Chaykina , who was shot by the Nazis during the war [15] .

After the war Belyaev repeatedly visited Berlin during the celebration of the anniversary of the Victory [4] [5] [16] .

On the day of the 90th anniversary, Belyaev fired a midday shot from the cannon of the Peter and Paul Fortress [4] .

He was buried with military honors with the participation of a company of the guard of honor of the Western Military District [21] [22] at the Serafimovsky cemetery [15] . In many publications dedicated to the death of Belyaev, he was mistakenly called the last living participant in the storming of the Reichstag [6] [10] [16] [20] [21] [23] , although in fact at the time of his death 7 more were still alive [15] .
