Yoan Angelu Lupescu (or Jonut Lupescu , rum. Ioan Angelo Lupescu ; born December 9, 1968, Bucharest , Romania ) - Romanian footballer , midfielder . He is known as a player of Dynamo (Bucharest) and the German clubs Bayer 04 and Borussia Mönchegladbach , as well as the Romania national team .

Club career

Lupescu, the son of football player Nikulae Lupescu, began his career in 1979 at the Mekanika youth team in Bucharest . In 1982, he moved to Dynamo (Bucharest) and made his debut at the age of 17 in the Romanian Division A on September 21, 1986 in a victorious match with Bacău (4: 1). After winning the Romanian Championship and Cup in the 1989/90 season and reaching the UEFA Cup semi-finals, Lupescu moved to Germany, in Bayer 04 , with which he won the German Football Cup in 1993 and reached the semifinal of the UEFA Cup in the 1994/95 season. After five seasons in Leverkusen, Lupescu signed a two-year contract with Borussia's Menchengladbach . In 1998, he returned to Dynamo Bucharest and won another Romanian championship in 2000. After a brief stay at Bursaspor at the beginning of the 2000/01 season, Lupescu returned to Dynamo again. On October 29, 2001, he concluded a short-term contract with the Saudi club Al-Hilal for five months, but was unable to adapt due to the unusual climate. In the same year, he returned for the fourth time at Dynamo, where he ended his career.

Career in the national team

Lupescu played 74 matches for the national team of Romania and scored six goals in them. He debuted on February 3, 1988 in a victorious game with Israel (2-0). He participated in the 1990 World Championships in Italy and the 1994 World Championships in the USA, as well as in Euro 1996 in England and Euro 2000 in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Coaching career

In 2003, Lupescu acquired a coaching license after graduating from Cologne Sports University [3] . After finishing his playing career, he coached the Bacau Club for a short period, and until 2004, Brasov , but was fired due to unsatisfactory results. After that, he became vice-president of the Football Federation of Romania. From the beginning of 2008, Lupescu became a member of the FIFA technical committee.
