In Color is the debut studio album of British DJ Jamie xx (real name Jamie Smith), released May 29, 2015 via Young Turks Records. The album was nominated for the 2015 Mercury Prize, and on December 7, 2015 was nominated for the 2016 Grammy Award in the category Best Dance / Electronic Album ^[11] ^[12] .

Content

History

Work on the album was conducted over a five-year period. Jamie wanted to create an album that would sound perfect and would be difficult to attribute to any particular musical era. It is also noteworthy that in the work on the album he was helped by his colleagues in the group The xx .

The first album single, “Sleep Sound,” was released March 27, 2014 ^[13] . The music video for Sleep Sound, directed by Sofia Mattioli and produced with 13 members from the Manchester Deaf Center, was released on April 10, 2014 ^[14] . The second single “Girl” was released on April 18, 2014. “Girl” and “Sleep Sound” were later re-released as a double single (double A-side) on May 5, 2014 ^[15] .

May 26, 2015 In Color became available for streaming in iTunes ^[16] . The official release of the In Color album took place on May 29, 2015 in digital format, as well as on CD, LP and the limited deluxe three-album version (triple-LP edition) on colored vinyl with two exclusive instrumental tracks ^[17] .

Critical Reaction

The album was positively received by music critics, receiving a total score of 87/100 on the Metacritic website based on 39 professional reviews ^[18] . In addition, many publications included the album in the lists of the best:

The disc received a nomination for the 2015 Mercury Music Prize ^[19] and the Dance / Electronic Album ( 2016 Grammy Awards ) ^[20] .
